These mixed media pieces morph as the point of view and light change.

2020 has been truly strange times and nearly everything has felt at odds and conflicted. Even words. So much so, in fact, that some people were finally having their voices heard, yet others now felt that they couldn't say anything — no matter how benign — for fear of being misunderstood, having words twisted, or worse. This is how What I Really Want To Say came to be.

The scarlet exclamation represents the intensity of what someone wants to say, and the highly-textured copper open and closed parentheses represent a self-silencing. The open parenthesis is a defined shape made from glass spheres; the closed parenthesis, by contrast, is distressed and the glass spheres that form its shape break from its edges, signifying that our words will break through and should not be muted.

These pieces are painted to and around the edges and may be hung with or without framing.
